Crowns
Preparation of a crown usually takes two appointments, though sometimes three if a lab-made foundation is required underneath the crown. In the first appointment, the tooth is reduced to allow space for the crown material (often porcelain) to cover the tooth and a temporary preparation is usually placed to cover the tooth, which prevents sensitivity, prevents tooth movement, and provides an esthetic covering while the lab makes the crown.
In the second appointment, the crown is tried in, adjusted as needed, and then cemented.
